With the change of months comes a change in trends. And for the Cleveland Guardians, what was a relatively quiet April has transitioned to a hot start to May.
Now, Cleveland has come off a rather exhausting stretch. 22 games in 23 days. But so far, things appear to be trending up in the CLE. Heading into the weekend, the old Guardos are now 22-15, and only two games behind the Detroit Tigers for the AL Central lead. They are also one of the top four teams in the AL at the moment.
So how has the change of the calendar brought along newfound success for the Guardians? Let’s take a deeper explanation…
Guardians: April Chill Brings May Heat
The latest road trip has brought in some unexpected success. Flash back to this past Saturday on the road against the Toronto Blue Jays. Daniel Schneeman, a utility guy, not necessarily known for his power, hits a solo home run in the sixth inning. Then, with the bases loaded and down to his last strike in the ninth, he hits a go-ahead grand slam.
And he put himself in some rare air. According to an X post by OptaSports, Schneeman joined Boston Red Sox player Babe Ruth from July 1919 as the only players to hit two home runs or more in a game as the road team, including the game-winning grand slam with his squad behind and down to its final out.
Take a breath, fans. There’s a lot of this 2025 season to go yet. But if this recent road trip is any indication, this could mean an offensive explanation and a metaphorical corner is about to be turned. The summer could be hot again in Cleveland. And the Guardians could provide plenty of fireworks come June, July and August.
Frankly, I can’t wait to see how it turns out.
