The Cleveland Guardians have officially extended star 3B Jose Ramirez to a seven-year deal worth 175 million. Last season for the Guards, he hit .283 with 30 home runs, 85 RBIs and 44 stolen bases.
This contract is interesting as it comes with a lot of incentives for the 33-year-old. Take a look:
While this is a very exciting extension for Guardians fans, the concern would certainly have to be that the financial assets are going to Ramirez and not to potential other players in the future. After all, this is a franchise that isn’t known for spending a lot of money on talent.
Additionally and this is not as prevalent in baseball compared to say football or basketball, but Ramirez is turning 33 years old and his age could be a factor in the coming years in regards to how he ends up finishing the contract with his performance in the final years.
No, one single player is not going to make the Guardians a World Series Contender, but it definitely does help them stay relevant each year.
People are saying it’s time to design to the statue:
Congratulations on the extension, Jose.
Here’s to many more fantastic years in Cleveland. Thanks so much for your continuous loyalty when you certainly could’ve gotten a lot more money with a different organization.
