The Browns have a single game left in the NFL season, and in the best case they will only win five games this season. However, there have been some bright spots for the season, despite having so many spots that have looked so poor. I’ll list a few below, and you and I together can determine if this season has been a bit better than it seems, or if the record represents this flop of a season better than we realize.
Carson Schwesinger
I think this is the most obvious bright spot this season, as there is little doubt he’ll win defensive rookie of the year. With an amazing season and tackles galore (74 COMB and 89 ASST), he has been a machine on the defensive side. We’ve had some good players come through, but this has been an amazing season from him and he has lifted the defense high. He’s even had interceptions and sacks, though infrequent they still are very impressive to see. He only can get better, and if this is his rookie year I have no doubts he’ll become a very key piece on this team. Alongside his teammates, I have little doubt he won’t become a piece that the team builds around for the next few years.
Harold Fannin Jr.
Harold was a player I didn’t think would have such an impact on the team. He’s been a vital link for our rookie QBs, and has proven a lot in his first season in the NFL. He’s put in statistical work, featuring 731 yards on 72 receptions, along with six touchdowns as well. He’s been a workhorse for the team, and having so many yards in his first season showcases his ability to work hard and get things done. With how important the tight end position has become for newer and even older QBs, having a good one in the backfield can make any team more dangerous. If this is his first season in the league, then he can continue to push harder and maybe even elevate to the TE1 position. He does still need to grow and learn, but every rookie does and I think he has a good mindset and willingness to learn and push himself.
What Has Gone Wrong?
Obviously, the season itself hasn’t looked quite hot. With only four wins right now, and a fifth being a toss up next week, things aren’t exactly great. QBs has been a disaster, and there is no promise anyone here will stick around for all too long. The offensive line has been weak, and the defense has fallen far from their early season form. Coaching has been a really bad spot, with so many calls and plays being wasted and fumbled from bad coaching. 4-5 wins can never be considered good in this league, and that is unacceptable and will result in rolling heads should it continue. In a winning league, four to five wins cannot continue for more than a few seasons. Just poor decisions all around have costed the team wins, and the team isn’t very strong to begin with.
What has Been This Seasons Rating?
Overall, this season hasn’t been a complete waste, but it sure hasn’t been good either. Costly mistakes, losing such winnable games in the first quarter of the season, so many things have completed the broken season. The bright spots are there, but they still can’t beat out what a disaster of a season this has been. Things can look up, but some major change will have to begin if anything positive wants to finally return to our great team. If a grade would have to be given to this, I’d say a C. Good spots here and there, but overall things just haven’t been what they needed to be.
