We’ve all been in a situation with a certain someone where our strategy is “Playing Hard to Get.”
AI calls it “A social strategy where someone feigns disinterest or unavailability to increase their perceived desirability and test a potential partner’s interest.”
Recently, LeBron James appeared in a photo at the Cavs’ practice facility and this got the entire basketball world going crazy with speculation on his future. With James just recently opting into his $52.6 million player option with the LA Lakers, it would take the Cavs making some sort of trade in order to make this homecoming a reality this coming year.
James played down his photo by tweeting this about the practice facility, “And every summer since it was built. I live here still and train every summer. Got damn yall bored man! Go get a plate of food somewhere and enjoy the 4th of July!”
My thinking is that LeBron is not an idiot and knew that if he posted a photo of himself at the facility, it was going to make a splash like it did. He clearly wants attention and that’s exactly what is happening.
I would love LeBron to “Come Home” and even if it costs the Cavs some talent, it would be fun to make one last attempt at a title with James. Ultimately, this offseason is a bit different because he is under contract and not a free agent with the ability to simply go and sign wherever he wants to play in the future.
In previous articles, I’ve noted how the current Wine & Gold team was unable to win. That is why making this LeBron trade is a good idea moving forward. However, his tweet has me rolling my eyes a bit because he certainly knew his photo was going to make big news. The same with him wearing the “Welcome Home” hat while golfing and also his “Proper Attire” comment on Allie Clifton’s Instagram.
It’ll be interesting to see what fans want with this offseason.
Trading for a 40-year-old LeBron isn’t going to guarantee any type of winning like it would’ve a decade ago. It would be more of a “Glory Run” as this legend prepares for retirement…at some point.
Ultimately, I’m for the trade even if it means giving up a lot of assets and this is because of the aforementioned losing in past seasons. This current team doesn’t have it and so the LeBron return would make everything insanely exciting.
LeBron – keep making news. It makes this summer interesting when our baseball team completely sucks and we wait for the Browns.
