Isaiah Mobley details expected role with Cavs behind his bro Evan Mobley

Isaiah Mobley is one of the newest additions to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs selected him 49th overall, pairing him up with his younger brother, Evan Mobley.

After being with the team for a few weeks, the young forward has learned what the Cavs’ expectations are of him for the upcoming season.

Cavs reporter Evan Dammarell tweeted Mobley’s insight Saturday afternoon.

#Cavs rookie Isaiah Mobley said the team wants him to be a floor spacer, defend multiple positions, provide playmaking and backup Jarrett Allen and his brother Evan.

Mobley is prepared to bring a lot of different contributions in his rookie year with the Cavs. He said that the team expects him to space the floor and defend multiple positions, while also making plays and proving backup for Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley.

Isaiah isn’t expected to be a starter this year, since Evan has solidified his spot as the Cavs’ top power forward. However, Isaiah noted that he’ll be the main bench piece for his brother and center Jarrett Allen.

Although it sounds like a lot, this really isn’t much to ask of Mobley. He ranked 57th in his class because of many talents, including floor spacing, his effort on defense, and “good, quick and precise passes in traffic” (per CBS Sports).

On top of his talent, Isaiah is entering the NBA with an advantage that not many rookies get. He reunites with his former high school and college teammate in his younger brother Evan. This familiarity will undoubtedly give Mobley an edge over the other rookies from his draft class.

This young team continues to get stronger with all of the talent they bring in each year. Third year star Darius Garland just extended his stay with the Cavs. The 22-year-old signed a five-year, $193 million deal.
