Ohio State’s offense has been firing on all cylinders so far this season. At the heart of the offense is Sophomore Phenom, Jeremiah Smith. Smith has yet again been on an absolute tear this season, as he did last season. The Buckeyes sit at 5-0 after another blowout victory over the Minnesota Golden Gophers on October 4th. In that specific victory, Smith recorded seven catches, 67 yards receiving, and two touchdowns. The chemistry between Jeremiah Smith and OSU Quarterback Julian Sayin is definitely turning heads. Smith is the undeniable go-to target in an Ohio State offense that is averaging 42 points per game so far this season. For Buckeyes fans, Smith’s strong play has them excited for not just another College Football Playoff berth. Buckeye fans feel strongly that the team can repeat as National Champions.
Smith attended Chaminade-Madonna College Prep in Hollywood, Florida. Coming out of high school, he was the No. 1 Wide Receiver in 2024, per 247Sports. Smith is an imposing figure who is 6’3″, 215 pounds. He also runs a 4.4-second 40-yard dash and has a 42″ vertical leap. That combination of height, athleticism, overall speed, and skills makes him virtually unstoppable on the football field. This is why Smith was able to make an immediate impact for the Buckeyes as a Freshman. He has continued where he left off in his Sophomore campaign.
Smith has a chance to truly be one of the greatest, if not the greatest, receivers in NCAA history. OSU Quarterback Julian Sayin calls Smith “A Quarterback’s Dream”. The reason he calls Smith this is because of his ability to adjust to routes on the fly and make big plays downfield. If Sayin throws it up, Smith will either beat his defender downfield or he will go up over the defender to make a big catch. This makes Smith the “Ultimate Weapon.”
Smith’s impact goes beyond the stats and the winning. He is a natural-born leader and a culture setter for the Buckeyes. He is often the first in the film room at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. He mentors the younger talent like Tavien St. Clair, even though Smith is only a Sophomore himself. Smith has a wealth of experience for his age because he helped lead the Buckeyes to a National Championship in his Freshman year. Smith realizes he is now in rare air. He has a chance to truly be special and make his mark on NCAA Football. Could he become the greatest Wide Receiver in NCAA history? Only time will tell.
