LeBron & Steph: Are We Allowed to Compare?

June 18, 2022 by Cleveland Sports Talk

Yes, after last night’s win Steph Curry has an equal amount of championships as LeBron James and a lot of people are clinging to that idea as a reason to compare the two ballers.

Let me preface this by saying that of course, as a Cavs fan, I am a bias toward LeBron and against Steph from the previous four finals between the Cavs and the Warriors (2015-18). However, I do have a tremendous amount of respect for Curry.

LeBron is the best player of all time. Steph is the best point guard of all time. There is a difference between the two players.

In the playoffs, James averages 28.7 points (49.5% shooting), 9 rebounds and 7.2 assists. Whereas Curry averages 26.6 (45.9% shooting), 5.4 rebounds and 6.2 assists. James has played in 266 postseason games and Curry is now at 134 total. A huge difference…

Of course, where Steph has Bron beat is in postseason three-point shooting. 40.1% to 33.7%.

LeBron simply has more dominance on the floor as a player. Even just from a size standpoint. The King is 6’9, 250 pounds of steel. Curry is 6’2 and 185 pounds. LeBron carries with him the knowledge and wherewithal to manage a team to success plus the aforementioned physical prowess.

This isn’t the same as the LeBron vs. Jordan debate because MJ had the same type of game and controlled the game like LeBron and that is why those two are compared as the Greatest of all Time.

Curry, on the other hand, has more of a shooter-first style and the ability to get hot from beyond the arc to impact the game differently than James would with a powerful dunk, iconic pass or breathtaking block.

Now, if I needed to pick one of the two to make a three-point shot, I am taking Steph Curry over Lebron. That’s an easy choice. Even so, it’s the overall game that simply has LeBron as the better player even though their Finals total is at an equal four.

Here’s an idea for you.

LeBron returns to the Cavs and the team once again faces the Warriors in the Finals. James solidifies his career with a victory over Steph and said Warriors one more time. The Cavs have the team to do it with the addition of a player like James.

Now that would be amazing.

Ultimately, to answer the question. Comparing these two players does no justice. Two great superstars that beat to their own drums of success.
