Presidents/Athletes The Bad Talking or Respect?

January 10, 2025 by Cleveland Sports Talk

First, I would like to pay my respects to the late and great President Jimmy Carter. I am currently watching his funeral and am absolutely amazed at all of the former presidents and important people of power sitting next to each other to honor this man. Seeing the photo above – wow!

Something that I also love about real sports and not politics, in general, is how players can have such rivalry and hatred for each other yet can also respect each other when it comes time for that to happen. Players such as Draymond Green talking about LeBron James and so forth. These two went at it over the years but know their worth.

They don’t look too happy with each other in that shot…

Thus, I am really curious as to how the presidents, former presidents, those who lost elections and simply people of power are able to come together and put everything aside and show respect for each other. When it comes to something such as a funeral like this, that is truly what America is all about and makes it a special place to live.

These two literally look like they are talking about the amazing Cavs/Thunder game last night. Well, Trump’s wife Melania looks like she didn’t exactly care…

Of course, everyone has their political views and this brand is in no way trying to tell people how to feel when it comes to that fact. I simply started to watch this funeral and this idea of respect and the rivalries that come with sports are shown.

Amazingly, President Carter lived to be 100 years old. What a life it was pre and post-presidency. One that will never be forgotten. I think there are a lot of athletes that sadly pass away but it’s not under that same front of only what they did during their playing time but also everything they did after it all came to an end.

The part I love to see with athletes is how they talk about each other when it’s all set and done. How different it is than during the big games against each other and such.

It appears the leaders of power were able to manage sitting in the same row together. The respect for one another is there. Just thinking of all the past debates and whatnot over the years. They were able to manage each other when it mattered most. What a scene that truly was and done for a man that deserved it.

A quote that I love from President Carter is, “America did not invent human rights. In a very real sense human rights invented America.”

Rest in Peace and God Bless America.
