3-1
Every single Cleveland Cavaliers fan knows that phrase and what it means. Of course, overcoming being down three games to one against the Golden State Warriors in the 2016 NBA Finals and ending up winning the series. However, Sunday night was a reminder for me.
No, my beloved Cavs were not in the Finals this year as they were defeated by the Indiana Pacers in the second round in disappointing fashion, five games. That was certainly a disappointment. However, those very Pacers were in this year’s NBA Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder. It went to seven games in which the Thunder were able to prevail by a score of 103-91.

Think about this…
LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and the Cavs were able to win the Game 7 they faced in ’16. Not just that, but it was on the road against a hostile crowd and an incredibly talented Warriors team.
It’s amazing to think about after we watched Sunday’s finish.
The Pacers were unable to capitalize on a situation that our Cavs were able to way back in the day. LeBron’s block, Kyrie’s shot, K Love’s stop. It’s something that should never ever be forgotten.
Yes, I always like to point out how, without a Game 5 and 6 defeat, there wouldn’t even be a Game 7. But let’s take a second and enjoy that very last game of a magical run by Cleveland.
To the Pacers:
Great run. Your team deserves all the credit in the world. However, it was a season cut short. Something here in Cleveland wasn’t the case back in ’16.
Maybe this upcoming season, the Cavs will contend for a title. Maybe they’ll get to battle against the best of them to once again win it all. That remains to be seen, but no one can take away the magic of that finish in ’16.
It’s not the Super Bowl and it’s not quite like a World Series; however, the NBA Finals are special in their own way. That was certainly shown with the way this one played out and our favorite back in 2016.
Take a moment and appreciate how the Cavs finished it all. It’ll make you warm and fuzzy on your worst days, that’s for sure.
LeBron: “I set out a goal two years, when I came back, to bring a championship to this city. I gave everything that I had. I poured my heart, my blood, my sweat, and my tears to this game and… against all odds. Against all odds. I don’t know why we wanna take the hardest road. I don’t know why the man above gave me the hardest road but… it’s nothing that the man above don’t put you in situations that you can’t handle. And I just kept that same positive attitude… Like instead of saying ‘why me?’ I was saying ‘This is what he wants me to do.’ And uhh…. CLEEEEEEVELANDDD!! This is for you.“
