The Cleveland Cavaliers look pretty set for next season. They drafted a solid 3 & D player in Ochai Agbaji, brought back Ricky Rubio, and have a tremendous big 3 headlined by Darius Garland. The next priority would be to figure out the Collin Sexton situation, though. He’s a restricted free agent and it’s still unknown if the Cavs will retain him.
According to the latest from Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, however, the Utah Jazz have explored a sign-and-trade with Cleveland involving Sexton and veteran Mike Conley but as Fischer points out, there is no guarantee the Cavs would be keen on adding another point guard:
Utah has explored a sign-and-trade scenario that would send veteran point guard Mike Conley to Cleveland in exchange for restricted free agent Collin Sexton, sources said. The Cavaliers wouldn’t appear to have a need for an additional point guard, and it seems unlikely that Conley would be the returning player Cleveland would prioritize if talks ever gained legitimate traction.
Who else could the Cavs prioritize on the Jazz roster? Potentially Bojan Bogdanovic for more shooting? Donovan Mitchell is certainly out of the question as he remains linked to the New York Knicks and Miami Heat.
A veteran PG wouldn’t be a bad thing for Cleveland but that’s exactly why they just reunited with Ricky Rubio, who did a fantastic job for them last season before tearing his ACL.
In all honesty, keeping Sexton could be the way to go, though. He’s looked like a star at times when healthy and remember, before Garland broke onto the scene, Sexton was undoubtedly the Cavs’ best player. Perhaps they should just sign him to a short-term deal.
