A lot of people across the nation today experienced horrific weather conditions, including us here in Cleveland. What a fun time it is to be an American, right?
Anyway, today I was busy watching the New England Patriots and Denver Broncos play in the AFC Championship Game in Mile High Stadium in Denver. It was filled with snow, especially during the second half of the game, making it really difficult to accomplish anything on the field. That’s for sure.
The Patriots ended up winning the game in a low-scoring affair, 10-7 and punched a ticket to the Super Bowl with the win, which is very exciting for them, of course.
However, what I really didn’t like was just how much “the conditions” were prevalent throughout and the game. Yes, I understand it was a factor for both of the teams and such, but here’s the problem…
All that is going to be talked about this week is “the conditions” and what differences they played throughout the game as the two teams battled it out throughout the afternoon.
The NFL certainly saw the weather report and knew that these conditions were upcoming. What I thought could’ve been done is they decided to postpone the game and simply change it to say a Monday Night Matchup instead of today.
Yes, the freezing cold would still be an issue for the teams, but the snow just feels different in the sense that it dictated the outcome without really letting the teams actually decide who should be the winner of the game, instead of the snow itself.
Another idea and this is a problem because it removes the home field advantage idea, but would be to find a dome to play the game in instead of these freezing temperatures, which some could consider as dangerous to everyone there. Players, fans and coaches.
Now, I get they’d have to change tickets and television and all that good stuff that comes with football, of course. But I feel that it would actually be a true decision between the teams for something as important as a trip to the Super Bowl.
Certainly, a lot of fans will call me an explative for not just dealing with “the conditions,” but if this were your team, I think you’d be feeling more as I did, especially if they lost to their opponent.
Everyone – I hope you enjoy your snowy conditions and try and make the best of this difficult situation we’re all dealing with in these parts. Let’s hope the Browns will be trying to get to a Super Bowl themselves sometime soon.
Stay Safe!
