Well, it’s been quite a journey really throughout my entire life with LeBron James here in Cleveland and throughout the NBA. As he starts to wind down on his time in basketball, many are wondering if he would like to finish out his career with a run in Cleveland once again. His third stint, of course.
However, if the Cavs would like him back it’s going to require a trade with the Lakers.
First of all, a lot of this depends on if LeBron were to announce that he is planning to retire after the end of the season. This making it a glory run, of sorts. Each road game getting a tribute from that team/stadium as everyone reflects on his time in basketball.
If a trade were to be made the Cavs would have to give up assets of sorts such as a PG Darius Garland and SF De’Andre Hunter in the deal. So the question would be if the Cavs could still content with an aging LeBron coming home and giving up assets too.
Honestly, I feel this would be more than winning and about the sybomlism instead with LeBron playing once again as a member of the wine and gold. Yes, the younger version of myself would kill me for saying I would rather see this happen than actually contending for a title.
Sorry, Little Zach.
This past season, the Cavs did show that they aren’t quite able to compete for a title with their current roster. Thus, it’s up to them to decide if they want to continue and try and build with what they have or go for this LeBron story that will draw the attention of everyone in the wold for this upcoming season.
I say, go for LeBron. Let’s have some fun. If it doesn’t work out winning-wise, the team can continue to try and build in future years.
Additionally, some things to think about are whom/what else to Cavs would receive in a trade for LeBron. Players that could help in the future. Also, as mentioned, who else is going to be given up to make this happen. Lastly, if any other trades or acquisitions are made to actually make the Cavs a contender with LeBron on the team.
It’s an exciting storyline, just like back in 2014 when everyone was talking about him coming home from Miami. Those were the days…
Now, if the Cavs were just in the NBA Finals this past year or say made a huge acuisition that puts them in contention for sure this year, my opinion on this story is different. Yet with the outcome last year and whatnot I’m ready to ride with this upcoming storyline and seeing what happens.
Thus, let’s Come Home LeBron.
