Shedeur Sanders
Shedeur balled out in his first NFL start, and then proceeded to injure himself the very next week in practice. So what are we looking for? Growth. Growth and consistency. At the end of the day, he is a rookie who has gotten very little first team reps. I would not expect him to start in the first half of the season, but I wouldn’t hate to see him suit up later in the year. Let me be very clear: He will make mistakes, and that is ok! He is young and still developing. I hope that we continue to see poise, an ability to mitigate damage and/or bounce back from tough moments, and some semblance of consistency. Lord knows that is one thing that we Browns fans are lacking.
Dillon Gabriel
Honestly, I don’t know. Gabriel is a wildcard to me. He had his moments at Oregon, and there were rumors that Cleveland got calls to trade for him after we took him in the 3rd round. Sitting at just under 6 feet tall, he has been called a bit undersized, with question marks on his deep ball potential as well. Despite that, he has shown good mobility and decision-making. What I’m looking for from his potential upcoming start is whether or not he will fit into our offense. He has historically played with more of a West Coast, RPO style attack, and I’m not sure if that fits with the ground-and-pound Browns football that we are familiar with. If the answer ends up being no, then I wouldn’t hate dealing with him for some mid-tier receiver talent, whatever form that may come in.
Kenny Pickett
I never liked the Pickett trade. As soon as I heard that, I knew we may be in for a rough 25-26 season. On top of that, Pickett went and got himself injured, again limiting our potential to move him, like many thought we would after we drafted two QBs. Maybe he can get himself healthy enough, perform at a mediocre level, and we can dump him before the season starts.
Joe Flacco
Joe Flacco is the one quarterback that I have real faith in. He is the only proven one. Everyone remembers in 2023 when we surprised the league with an 11-6 record and made the playoffs. I see no reason why we can’t do that again, provided that we actually start him. Allowing rookies to grow and learn under a veteran, Super Bowl champion quarterback is exactly what we should do. I project Flacco to start for at least the first 6 games.
Tyler Huntley
Another surprise here, Huntley was a “wait, we signed who?” type of acquisition. Despite that, I don’t hate it, barring that we use him correctly. Tyler Huntley is not a starter, nor should he be. He is a mobile quarterback and should be utilized as such. Bring him in for RPOs or designed runs, that’s about it.
Deshaun Watson
I’ll keep it short and sweet
