With the Browns season inching ever closer, and the training camp right around the corner, we need to figure out what would be considered good. Is it wins? Developments? We’ll talk about it here.
The number one reason our season could be considered good, is going to be development. There is no such thing as a wasted game in the NFL, whether you lose, win or tie. Everything is a learning experience, something can be taken from a game or a play that can be utilized to one’s advantage. Because of that, this year looks like a great development year. Seeing our rookies progress through the season, learning and practicing in NFL speed. Our rookie QBs continuing to learn and play, maybe seeing the field as a starter. Since the team being competitive is doubtful, we need to focus on next season as well. Developing the players plays into that, giving them a whole years worth of game time. Our QBs especially will look to see development, hoping one of them can maybe become our future.
Promise is another factor to this seeing being considered good. While it shares similarities to development, promise doesn’t just cover rookies. It can cover coaches, game time decisions, playbooks and stats. If one of our rookies shines this year, that’s promise, promise he’ll excel in the coming years. Maybe our defense will show off some skills in certain areas, promise. Young players showing skills in things like route running and defensive IQ, promise. While the wins may not be rolling in, there will still be flashes and showings that we can pay attention to. The NFL is a team game, so paying attention to the coaches, game management and both sides of the ball in terms of play calling is also important. If the team has promise, paired with good development, the next few years can be great.
Performance, once again shares a lot with the two I mentioned above. However if we want this season to be considered good, our players need to preform. This is especially important for our rookies, as we’d like to see them be good as they can be. However outside of the rookies, seeing good performances from our stars is something I’d like to see. Whether that be Myles Garrett, David Njoku, or even just our defensive line altogether, seeing good performances from these players is always nice. It also plays into promise, especially when in tandem with our rookies maybe breaking out and having good seasons.
Despite the Browns iffy future, and the likelihood of a poor season record wise, the Browns still have things to turn to. Whether that be development of our young players, promise in the defensive or offensive side of the ball, or good performances from our vets, there is hope yet for a “good season.
