Stop.
Yes, even you, my brother Benny.
Everybody…stop.
I do not hope the Cleveland Cavaliers lose the NBA Finals (or playoff series) this year. That is not what I am trying to say at all by writing this… It is purely speculative.
What made the 2016 NBA Finals win so special was not just because the Cavs came back from down three games to one, where very few people thought they had a chance, in order to beat the Warriors. It was because it was the first time Cleveland had won a championship since 1964 (Go Browns). It was the first time a Cavs team ever won a title and thus LeBron James’ first title in Cleveland too.
Of course, LeBron would eventually go on to play in Los Angeles for the Lakers and these Cavaliers would not nearly be any good without him until really this year.
So you’re saying there’s a chance?
Well, yes. And this series sweep against the Miami Heat proved just how lethal this team can be.

It’s next opponent will be this coming Sunday against the Indiana Pacers in Cleveland.
But it got me thinking.
If the Cavs were able to win it all… Which, of course, is not a guarantee by any means and we all know and have seen just how difficult a run to glory is… What would the feelings be in reflection on 2016?
Let’s not make this an Oprah scene or a trip to your therapist. It’s my idea that I would, in a weird way, be disappointed in regards to thinking thinking about the past. What was so great about this past just that…it was the one AND ONLY time the Cavs had won it all. Thus, looking back at it makes it even more special than the symbolism of a usual finals/title/championship has in sports.
First, let’s actually win the title. Right? I don’t want to jinx it with my speculation and whatnot.
It’ll be an exciting battle against the fourth-seed Pacers that just beat the fifth-seed Bucks. 4-1.
Well, I guess another Cavs team (or Cleveland team in general) is going to have to win a title eventually. And when that happens, I’d just like the respect to be remembered in regards to that 2016 Finals and I’m sure it will.
Best of luck to the Cavs as they gear up to try and bring another championship to this city that deserves it so much!
LeBron, I love you, my man. However, it’s time for my current Dawgs to get this one, even with you in Los Angeles. Now, if you ever choose to comeback again to close it all out on your career, well that’s a different story and we’ll post about that when the time comes.
Lastly, the only thing better than Cleveland winning championships is drinking Diet Coke.
Smart ass reading this will say: “Well, you must be a virgin, my friend.”
