Class of 2025 four-star EJ Walker talks recruiting blitz, sets commitment timeframe

October 23, 2023 by Zags Blog

By CHARLIE PARENT

Class of 2025 top-100 prospect EJ Walker has had a busy autumn.

The 6-foot-8 forward out of Lloyd Memorial High School (KY.) traveled to six campuses, brought his offer total north of 40 and had various coaches in for practices.

EJ’s father and high school coach Mike Walker told ZAGSBLOG he thinks a commitment will come “no later than August” with a top-five coming after high school season due to all the travel.

With high school scrimmages set to begin next month, EJ broke down his recruitment:

Ohio State (Oct. 21 visit): “I think it was good. The environment was way better. It was really packed in there [football stadium]. You could feel the love.”

Butler (Oct. 12 visit and offer): “We went up there to watch them practice. Talked to coach Mata after practice. We were just talking and he offered and then we went on a campus tour. I’ve been talking to Coach [Alex] Barlow since the beginning of AAU season.”

Louisville (Oct. 6 unofficial visit): “It was good, we got to watch them practice to and saw where they live at and some of the campus. And just watch their new team from last year and hang out with the coaches a little.”

Notre Dame (Sept. 2 visit): “It was good. There was like some one of my friends from like, Kentucky was there to attainment. We just we saw like campus a little watch the practice and watch the game.”

Walker also visited Purdue on Sept. 30, received an offer from South Carolina on Sept. 26 and saw a football game at Michigan on Sept. 23.

Wisconsin assistant Sharif Chambliss was at Walker’s practice earlier this month and he will visit campus for a second time on Nov. 10 for their game against No. 10 Tennessee.

Former West Virginia standout guard and current assistant Jordan McCabe was among those at last month’s practice as well.

Finally, Texas, UCLA, Kansas and Arkansas are the newest schools to enter his recruitment.

In terms of what Walker can bring to the table, his father Mike stressed EJ’s versatility above all.

“He’s an amazing kid,” Mike said. “He’s a gym rat, his love for the game shows and in terms of his playing style you’re getting a kid who’s very versatile. He can play multiple positions, he can guard multiple positions and he can score at all three levels.”

“His IQ is really high,” coach Walker continued. “His best ability is being able to pass and make his teammates better. I call him a Swiss Army Knife because there’s so much he can do and that’s what college coaches love about him.”
