Ohio State has officially named its starting quarterback for its season opener against Minnesota. On Saturday, head coach Ryan Day announced that C.J. Stroud will start under center for the Buckeyes.
Day explained that Stroud created more than enough separation from Jack Miller and Kyle McCord to be named Ohio State’s starter.
“He will work hard over the weekend and then into next week start to prepare for Minnesota,” Day said, via ESPN. “I thought over the body of work between the spring and also through the preseason he separated himself with his decision-making, his leadership skills, his accuracy. Now we’ve got to prepare him to play a game.”

Over the past three years, the Buckeyes have been spoiled by Justin Fields and Dwayne Haskins. As a result, Stroud has some pretty large shoes to fill this season.
Yahoo insider Pete Thamel certainly doesn’t seem worried about Thamel, as he revealed what Ohio State fans should expect to see this fall.
“Here’s the takeaway on C.J. Stroud, who will start in OSU opener at Minnesota. He’s more athletic than Dwayne Haskins, but not quite Justin Fields. He can run, and will occasionally. But OSU will remain a pass-first offense, as the elite OL and WR room will give him room to grow,” Thamel said.

Judging by the college football world’s initial reaction to Day’s announcement, people are very excited to see what Stroud can do, and rightfully so.
Earlier this week, Ohio State wide receiver Garrett Wilson compared Stroud to Seattle Seahawks star Russell Wilson. If Stroud’s playing style is similar to Wilson’s, he’ll be must-see TV this fall.
