There won’t be a college football coach under more pressure this fall than Ohio State’s Ryan Day.
Day started off his tenure at Ohio State by dominating the Big Ten and making it to the College Football Playoff in back-to-back years.
Since then, Ohio State has made the CFP once in the past three seasons. To make matters worse, the program is a on a three-game losing streak against Michigan.
Jesse Simonton, a national college football columnist for On3, ranked the top 25 coaches heading into the 2024 season. He currently has Day ranked fourth.
Here’s what Simonton had to say, via On3:
Day hasn’t beaten Michigan in three years, but he continues to win most all his other games (56-8 as a head coach) and sign Top 3 recruiting classes. He was a missed field goal away from likely winning a national championship in 2022, and the Buckeyes, who return the bulk of their Top 10 defense and have one of the best 2024 transfer portal hauls, will be top title contenders next season.
Ohio State will have the talent to win a national championship next season. Anything short of that goal will be considered a failure in Columbus.
