Prior to yesterday’s Cotton Bowl Classic, the bowl organizers and sponsors made a public pledge of $1,000 for every touchdown scored in the game. You can probably guess where this is going.
Yesterday’s game between Ohio State and Missouri had an over/under of 51.5 points – that’s an estimate of six to seven touchdowns. But the reality of the game was very different.
In the first three quarters there was only one field goal and no touchdowns scored between the two teams. The only touchdowns came in the fourth quarter – two touchdowns from the Tigers in what was a 14-3 victory.
As a result, the donation to the “Touchdowns for Teachers” campaign was a mere $2,000. While all charity is good charity, that’s probably not what the bowl organizers had in mind.
Fans had all kinds of jokes in response to the revelation:

“Teachers are used to not getting paid enough,” one user replied.
“Ryan Day hates the teachers smh,” another user wrote.
“Kids about to major in poverty,” Josh Pate joked.
Hopefully the Cotton Bowl Classic game organizers were willing to make a little supplemental donation.
