Former NFL star running back turned college football head coach Eddie George has scheduled a big non-conference game.
George and his Tennessee State football program have scheduled a historic non-conference game, as they’ll take on Notre Dame in South Bend in 2023.
This will be the first time that Notre Dame hosts an HBCU team in a game.
George is getting credited for the historic scheduling.
Notre Dame will open its 2023 season with Tennessee State, the first time the Fighting Irish have played an HBCU team. Credit was given to second-year Tennessee State coach Eddie George and AD Mikki Allen for the game, which will be televised on NBC.https://t.co/swFOo3kByN

There’s an Ohio State connection to the game, too, as both George and Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman played for the Buckeyes.
However, that had nothing to do with the game.
“It’s a coincidence,” George said. “When I learned I was going to play Notre Dame, I was like, ‘Oh my gosh.’ When I really looked at the opportunity for our kids to come to this university and have an opportunity to play on a national stage to show the nation what Tennessee State is all about holistically, the colleges, pageantry, tradition and our rich history, not just in football but as a university was a wonderful opportunity.”
News of the game scheduling went viral on social media on Tuesday.
