Ex-Ohio State Coach Tony Alford Has Blunt Message For Fans

Earlier this month, longtime college football coach Tony Alford left Ohio State to join Michigan’s staff. Naturally, that move didn’t sit well with the fans in Columbus.

Alford, 55, first joined Ohio State’s staff in 2015. He coached at Notre Dame for several years before joining forces with Urban Meyer.

Alford received a ton of criticism from Ohio State fans once Michigan named him the school’s new running backs coach and run-game coordinator.

On Wednesday night, Alford shared the following quote from Illinois basketball coach Brad Underwood: “If they hate you when you leave, you did a good job.”

It’s hard to believe this was a coincidence. Alford most likely posted this on social media as a way to call out Ohio State fans.

Last week, Alford thanked Ohio State with a lengthy statement. He also said he was amped up for his future at Michigan.

“To Buckeye Nation, the support you give this program has been second to none and it’s appreciated, thank you,” Alford wrote. “… All of that being said, as I will undoubtedly miss so many things about being a member of the Buckeye Football Family, I am excited about what the future holds as I embark on the next chapter of this journey.”

Only time will tell if Ohio State fans get over Alford’s departure.
