Andrew Stueber hopes to hear his name called during the 2022 NFL Draft. The offensive tackle enjoyed a decorated career at Michigan, which he concluded with a Big Ten title.
Before winning the conference and making the school’s first College Football Playoff appearance, the Wolverines earned a satisfying win over their bitter rivals. On November 27, they knocked Ohio State out of the national championship hunt with a 42-27 victory in Ann Arbor.
In a FOX Sports interview with former NFL lineman Geoff Schwartz (h/t Brad Crawford of 247Sports), Stueber recalled the “unbelievable feeling” of vanquishing Michigan’s rival for the first time since 2011.
“It was almost like movie-like,” Stueber said. “I mean you walk out there, the snow’s falling, it’s Michigan-Ohio State, it’s cold and it’s Big Ten football. That’s why you want to play.”
He added that everything from the atmosphere to pre-game preparation “just felt different” that day. Stueber felt good about their chances when the Wolverines jumped ahead early.
“We kind of knew, start of the second quarter we scored right away, we knew we were going to win that game from that point on.”
The 22-year-old also remembered receiving congratulatory calls and texts from alumni “living vicariously through us” since many of them never got to beat Ohio State.
Stueber played a big part in the monumental victory, clearing the pathway for 297 team rushing yards and five Hassan Haskins touchdowns. He started all 14 games as a senior for a unit that received the 2021 Joe Moore Award for the country’s top offensive line.
NFL.com projects the 6’7″, 325-pound Stueber to get selected in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, which starts Thursday night in Las Vegas.
