Moldovan earned his first win as a professional golfer in April on the PGA Tour Americas.

For the fourth-straight year, former Ohio State golfer Maxwell Moldovan will take on golf’s toughest challenge.

Moldovan qualified for the 125th U.S. Open at the iconic Oakmont Country Club after finishing tied for second place at U.S. Open Final Qualifying at Springfield Country Club in Springfield, Ohio. Moldovan has now qualified for the last four U.S. Open’s at the Springfield qualifying site.

“I just feel at peace here,” Moldovan told NBC Sports after his round about Springfield. “I came here, first U.S. Open sectional when I was 15, got in as an alternate and played here. Obviously didn’t play good, but came back at 17 years old. I’ve played the Ohio Amateur here. I just love this place.”

His first round included six birdies and five bogeys to finish 1-under. He then shot a 4-under 66 in the second round to get to 5-under and avoid the playoff at 4-under for the final qualifying spot.

“My caddy and I, we have so much fun here,” Moldovan said. “The greens, they’re so crazy, and you have to hit putts sideways and let the gravity take the ball into the hole. It happened a lot for me today, and it was so cool.”

A three-time All-American at Ohio State, Moldovan finished the first two days at 7-over at the 2024 U.S. Open to miss the cut by two strokes. He also missed the cut in his previous two U.S. Open entries.

Moldovan earned his first professional win two months ago, securing the victory at the 70th ECP Brazil Open on the PGA Tour Americas with a 50-foot eagle putt on the final hole to beat George Markham by one shot at 18-under.

His win made him the first Ohio State golfer to win a professional PGA Tour tournament since Bo Hoag at the Portland Open on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2019. He also earned exempt status on the PGA Tour Americas through the 2026 Latin America swing and moved up to the No. 2 spot on the 2025 Fortinet Cup, where he now sits at No. 5.
