The Ohio State Buckeyes should cast a wide net in finding a running backs coach to replace longtime coach Tony Alford. But one former Buckeye believes he would be a perfect fit for the job.
Taking to X on Wednesday, former Ohio State running back Maurice Clarett tried to make the case to head coach Ryan Day to get the job that Alford vacated. Alford reportedly accepted the running backs coaching job at arch-rival Michigan today.
“Ryan Day……you making room on the staff for me? You really love me don’t ya!!!” Clarett wrote.
He continued for a good while, trying to get the Buckeyes to give him a buzz:
“@OhioStateFB tell Ryan to call me. He has my number,” he wrote in a follow-up post.
“@brianhartline tell your homeboy to call me… …. Might be the best way to stop all of my Saturday afternoon troll sessions,” he said in another message to the Buckeyes’ wide receivers coach.
Clarett has had some harsh words for Day in the past (which some fans pointed out in his replies). But Clarett said that he would happily do the job for free in order to bury the hatchet.
Clarett was a star running back for the Buckeyes in the early 2000s and helped the team win the BCS national championship in 2002. He had a number of issues outside of football but has recently become more well-known by the current generation for being a commentator on social media.
His coaching experience seems pretty limited though, so it might not be as good of a fit as he thinks it is.
We’ll just have to wait and see.
