Ohio State is making some early impressions in the 2027 class.

The Buckeyes are back!

With the start of training camp today, it’s the official start of the 2025 campaign. In one way or another it’s felt like a long offseason at times, but regardless the national champions are back on the field looking to attack another title.

There will be plenty of headlines to follow how this team is looking, so recruiting should start to quiet down a bit. While this 2026 class has spots to fill and 2027 is really becoming a priority for the staff, news will slow. Even so, this staff never stops recruiting entirely, so the work and efforts will be put in behind the scenes.

2027 edge rusher keeping the Buckeyes a priority

A position talked about time and time again, the Buckeyes continue to pursue edge rushers heavily in the 2027 class. Doing their best to be in the mix for as many top players as possible, this staff seems to be set in changing their ways of the last couple of cycles when it comes to landing their top targets, and that would be a welcomed change.

There’s no excuse for Ohio State to not land the best of the best at a premium position, and the staff is hoping 2027 goes off without a hitch. On their way to success with another player, the Buckeyes saw their name kept in the fold when Utah native Krew Jones gave a list of schools he is focusing on Wednesday.

A 6-foot-5, 233 pound athlete, Jones is the No. 138 player nationally and the 18th best edge rusher in the class per the 247Sports Composite. Holding nearly 30 offers to his name, focusing mainly on seven schools shows he’s willing to narrow things down a bit and really hone in on the best fit for the next level.

Speaking to Adam Gorney of Rivals, Jones is leaning towards BYU, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, USC, and Ohio State. From here, the Buckeyes will surely keep the relationship growing best they can if they want to have a real shot. At the very least, it’s another highly-touted player at the position who has real interest in all that Ohio State has to offer.

Top list emerges for 2027 4-star EDGE Krew Jones, per @adamgorney

“I’m still kind of open, but those are the schools where I’m leaning.”

Quick Hits

  • There are plenty of players the Buckeyes are targeting in the 2027 class at this spot, as offensive tackle is a major need in every recruiting cycle. No surprise to see several offers already dished out, position coach Tyler Bowen clearly believes in the strategy of offering more guys than not.

Only helping the program’s chances of landing guys that immediately help with depth, one to certainly keep an eye on is Texas native, Qua Ford. The No. 56 player nationally and sixth best at his position per the 247Sports Composite, Ford has the Buckeyes as a player in his recruitment early on. With more names sure to follow as potential additions, Ford is a can’t-miss type of recruit you do the work for and hope it pays off.
