Ohio State wide receiver Garrett Wilson against Penn State.

The New York Jets added some firepower to their offense on Thursday night, selecting Ohio State wide receiver Garrett Wilson with the 10th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Wilson was a star at the collegiate level, finishing his Ohio State career with 143 receptions for 2,213 yards and 23 touchdowns.

During his introductory press conference on Friday afternoon, Wilson revealed which wide receiver he models his game after. It turns out he’s a fan of Stevie Johnson.

That’s a slight throw back. Stevie was nice..

Johnson, a former seventh-round pick out of Kentucky, was a really productive wideout for the Buffalo Bills. In six seasons with the team, he caught 301 passes for 3,832 yards and 28 touchdowns.

What made Johnson such a fun wide receiver to watch was his footwork and route-running skills.

As for Wilson, what makes him unique is his ability to play both in the slot and on the outside.

“That’s something that being a receiver, taking a lot of pride in what I do, I wanted to have that in my game,” Wilson said, via The Columbus Dispatch. “This past season, moving back outside was good for my development. Seeing DBs up in my face, a lot of good cornerbacks, I feel like that translates everywhere, so I feel like I can do both for sure.”

The Jets might have themselves a star in the making in Garrett Wilson.
