Harrison Jr. and Proctor Earn Weekly Big Ten Honors

October 10, 2023 by NEO Sports Insiders

COLUMBUS, Ohio – An Ohio State Buckeye on each side of the ball garnered Big Ten weekly honors on Monday. Wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. was chosen as the league’s Offensive Player of the Week while safety Josh Proctor earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Harrison Jr. caught a season-high eight passes for 163 yards and a touchdown in the Buckeyes’ 37-17 win over Maryland. Seven of his eight receptions resulted in first downs and his 17-yard TD reception gave the Buckeyes a 34-17 lead with 7:01 remaining in the game.

Harrison Jr. has 25 receptions for 499 yards on the season and four touchdowns. His 20.0 yards-per-catch average ranks 12th nationally among players with 15 or more receptions. Last Saturday’s game was the 10th of his career in which he had 100 or more yards receiving, which ties him with Garrett Wilson and Michael Jenkins for third-most in program history. David Boston holds the record with 14 100-yard games.

Proctor, in his sixth season with the Buckeyes, had the best all-around game of his career on Saturday. He finished with a career-high tying seven tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and had a 24-yard “pick six” in the second quarter for Ohio State’s first points of the day.

In four games thus far, Proctor has 23 tackles (17 solo), 2.5 tackles for loss, one interception and three pass breakups. As a unit, Ohio State ranks sixth nationally against the pass (158.4 yards allowed per game) and has given up just three passing touchdowns.

The No. 3 Buckeyes (5-0, 2-0 Big Ten) return to action on Saturday when they take on Purdue at Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette, Ind. The game will kick off at noon and can be seen exclusively on Peacock.
