Ohio State made a big move at offensive coordinator during the offseason.
Head coach Ryan Day was able to pry Chip Kelly from UCLA to be OSU’s offensive coordinator. He’s replacing Bill O’Brien after he left to be the head coach at Boston College.
According to Eleven Warriors, Kelly is going to make $2 million and will be the second-highest-paid assistant coach on the staff. Defensive coordinator Jim Knowles makes the most money at $2.2 million.
Brian Hartline, the program’s co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach, will make $1.6 million.
The program is paying good money for its assistants since it wants to be the best team in the country this season.
The Buckeyes have most of their players coming back for next season and are an early favorite to win both the Big Ten and the national championship.
Kelly brings a lot of play-calling experience. He called plays during his time at UCLA, Oregon, and in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers.
The Buckeyes finished the 2023 season with an 11-2 record after losing to the Missouri Tigers in the Cotton Bowl Classic.
