When Bill O’Brien left for Boston College and Chip Kelly became available, Joel Klatt knew it wouldn’t be long before the former Oregon coach found himself at Ohio State.
On Tuesday’s self-titled show, the FOX college sports analyst said of the Kelly hire: “There is not a person in this business that Ryan Day trusts more than Chip Kelly. … It made a lot of sense, it makes so much sense.”

It makes all the sense in the world. There’s nobody that Ryan trusts more in this sport for Chip Kelly and now this new play-calling system at Ohio State is gonna have Chip Kell at the helm. … I think Ohio State will be become a better running team. Chip Kelly rushes the ball as well as anybody in the country. That’s what UCLA did, and I think Ohio State is going to lean into that a little bit more. … Last year Ohio State was 88th in the country running the football… I think that needs to get better and it will. And I think that’s the biggest point. … Nobody’s had a better offseason than Ohio State.
One of the biggest things keeping the Buckeyes from beating Michigan the past few years has been the run game; which allowed the Wolverines to control the game with their fundamentals and physicality.
It sounds like Day and OSU are looking to put an end to that once and for all with their moves since Jim Harbaugh’s departure to the NFL.
