Coming off a disappointing finish and seeing his arch rival win the national championship, Ohio State’s Ryan Day has been on a mission of late.
That mission has been to shore up the Buckeyes’ roster through NIL funding to retain current players or landing premium transfers.
It’s a strategy that drew praise from FOX Sports’ Joel Klatt this week.
“Is Ryan Day disappointed? Absolutely. There’s no doubt,” Klatt said on his podcast. “And guess what? He’s doing, and has done over the last month, what I think really good coaches do- reevaluate, form a plan.”

In some ways, this is the easier part for Day though, whose real challenge will begin on the field next fall. Ohio State will have road trips to Oregon and Penn State in addition to its season-ending clash with Michigan on its 2024 schedule.
Klatt said recently that he expects the Buckeyes will be a force next season.
I did not see this coming … They’re basically all coming back. … Think about the guys who have said no to the NFL draft and they’re all coming back. This is eerily similar by the way to Michigan a year ago at this point. … They went into the portal and got Will Howard… he was the Kansas State quarterback that won a Big 12 Championship over TCU. They get the best running back in the SEC: Quinshon Judkins. Now he’s going to split carries with TreVeyon Henderson? That’s immediately the best backfield in America. … I tell ya man, Ohio State is primed to make a run.
Ohio State will open its 2024 season at home against Akron on Aug. 31.
