Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day comes across as a super authentic and kind human being. But is he the real deal? ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit has made his opinion on Day very clear.
Herbstreit took to Twitter on Monday to voice his opinion of the Ohio State football coach. He’s clearly a fan.
“Real deal. As good of a guy as you’ll meet,” said Herbstreit. “Cares about his players like his own kids.”

Ryan Day has garnered much praise for what he had to say about the late Dwayne Haskins on Monday morning. The former Ohio State quarterback died on Saturday when he was struck by a vehicle while he was trying to cross a highway on foot.

Kirk Herbstreit, meanwhile, has always been a big Ryan Day fan. Last season, Herbstreit spoke at length about the Ohio State head coach during a game.
“Ryan Day’s leadership as a head coach, I don’t know if Gene Smith knew when they hired him how much he could bring to the table in that area,” Herbstreit said last season, via 247Sports. “When you hire a guy, you like his intelligence and his disposition, but until he becomes the guy, you really don’t know what you’re really getting as a first-time head coach. I like how he handles the media. He’s very matter-of-fact. He doesn’t go coach talk. He says this is the way it is. When they had the defensive issues, he was very forthcoming. Between that and the way he handles his players, it’s a very good energy and it has allowed his program to be one of the elites.”
Ryan Day continues to impress the rest of the college football world, and not just because of his coaching abilities.
