Believe it or not, the reigning national champion Ohio State Buckeyes will return to the practice field in just over two weeks as fall camp will kick off on Thursday, July 31. From there, it is less than a month before OSU kicks off its title defense against the Texas Longhorns.
So, as we approach the season, we here at Land-Grant Holy Land are looking to round out our roster of incredible Buckeye bloggers with another talented contributor. We are looking for someone with excellent writing skills, a vast understanding of the sport of football, and a passion for Ohio State.
Additionally, members of the LGHL staff should also have a unique viewpoint on college sports, a willingness to discuss both the good and bad moments in OSU’s season, and the ability to take their work (but not themselves) seriously. Land-Grant Holy Land has long looked to elevate the voices of all different types of Ohio State fans, and we continue to prize people who bring unique perspectives and insights into the game.

What does the role entail?
The writer roles will provide anywhere from one to three weekly articles covering Ohio State athletics. The focus for this position will primarily be football, with the opportunity to write about other sports as well.
Ideally, we are looking for someone with enough football knowledge to break down offensive and defensive plays, schematics, and fundamentals, while explaining them in relative layman’s terms for Buckeye fans who don’t have technical football backgrounds.
We are also looking for someone to write nuanced and out-of-the-box columns about Ohio State football and other sports that go in different directions from the traditional articles that you find across the Buckeye beat.
However, we are open to any and all applicants with strong writing skills, a creative approach to thinking about Ohio State sports, and a sense of humor.
This role is a contract role and is compensated with a monthly stipend. The amount will be determined by your experience level and how many articles per week you write. However, think of this in terms of beer and pizza money, instead of rent money.
Additionally, if you are interested in podcasting, there are opportunities for additional stipends there as well.
What qualifications should you have?
Our best candidates will:
- Have a passion for Ohio State athletics.
- View Ohio State, college football, and sports fandom from a different perspective than most others covering college athletics.
- Have writing and/or digital media experience — experience writing about college sports and/or Ohio State is a plus.
- The ability to edit and write clean copy.
- The ability to communicate efficiently with other bloggers and site editors.
- Be comfortable working in a remote environment.
