Longtime Urban Meyer Assistant Tim Kight Has Died

One of Urban Meyer’s longtime assistants from his Ohio State days has passed away.

Taking to X on Saturday, Brian Kight announced that his father, former Buckeyes assistant Tim Kight, passed away in his sleep last night.

“My dad, Tim Kight, died peacefully in his sleep last night. He was so many things, to so many people, to so many of you. Whether or not you got to meet him, you felt him. He was that kind of presence. But to me he was just Dad. And that was everything. I love you, Dad,” Kight wrote.

A former track runner at Ohio State and UCLA, Kight had worked a motivational speaker for decades. His message was so powerful that Meyer wanted to keep him on staff as a leadership consultant during his coaching days with the Buckeyes.

Clearly Kight’s words bore fruit for Meyer. During his seven years with the Buckeyes, Meyer went 83-9, winning three Big Ten titles, a national championship and finishing in the top 10 six times.

Many people have taken to the comments of Brian Kight’s post to offer their condolences to the family:

“Brian, my heart breaks for you and your family. Your Father was so stoic and truly led from his heart and words through out the ordeal. His legacy and energy is boundless and never ending. My condolences,” one user wrote.

“This one hurts. Only knew TK for a couple years but the wisdom and things he helped me with will always live with me. I will use those things and carry them into my future. Whether it’s football, family, business. Much love TK! Legend!” wrote another.

“Sending Prayers for you and your Family Brian. Your Father was a Special Man – impacting so many lives throughout his career – most important was his impact on you and your family. RIP Tim Kight – Strong Faith, Special Man – a life well lived,” Tulsa head coach Kevin Wilson replied.

Our hearts go out to the Kight family.
