While they may be losing superstar wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. and quarterback Kyle McCord, the outlook for Ohio State in 2024 actually looks pretty solid after Michigan’s national title win.
Earlier today, Buckeyes No. 2 wide receiver Emeka Egbuka announced that he is returning for another season rather than making the expected decision to go to the NFL. That news follows Nick Saban’s retirement as head coach of Alabama.
The result is a situation where Michigan is likely to go down a peg from losing a ton of its starters while mighty Alabama likely goes through a challenging transition year. For Dan Wolken of USA Today, that’s all good news for the Buckeyes’ NIL program.
“Nothing has been better for Ohio State’s NIL program than Michigan winning the national title. Ryan Day is in the clock next year in a big big way,” Wolken wrote this morning.

But as Dan Wolken also alluded to, 2024 will be an important year for Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day.
After three straight losses to Michigan and only one College Football Playoff game win since taking over in 2019, patience for Day is wearing thin.
If he can’t get over the hump in 2024, it’s fair to wonder if he’ll be the Buckeyes’ head coach in 2025.
