National Champion Ohio State Buckeyes Visit the White House

April 16, 2025 by NEO Sports Insiders

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State head coach Ryan Day and a contingent of about 200 members of his team, coaching staff and university and athletic department administrators were honored as part of a day-long visit to Washington, D.C., that was capped by a formal ceremony on the White House South Lawn led by President Donald J. Trump.

Six busses and a police escort left the Woody Hayes Athletic Center at 8:50 a.m. Monday for the short ride to John Glenn International Airport, where the team chartered in and out.

The 2024 team, including captains Emeka Egbuka, TreVeyon Henderson, Jack Sawyer and Cody Simon, quarterback Will Howard and All-Americans Donovan Jackson and Seth McLaughlin, visited the Lincoln Memorial and took a team photo before a lunch stop at law firm Jones Day, which originated in Cleveland and has spectacular views of the U.S. Capital.

Ohio State President Ted Carter, Athletic Director Ross Bjork and Ohio Congresswoman Joyce Beatty all spoke to the team during the lunch break.

The contingent then moved on to the White House, where activities included Day, the team and the President touring the Oval Office while others gathered and mingled on the South Lawn on a warm mid-April afternoon.

The ceremony for the national champions included a greeting and speech from President Trump, remarks from Vice President and Ohio State graduate JD Vance, and Day delivering a 3-minute talk about his team, including weaving in messages from President Theodore Roosevelt’s “The Man in the Arena” speech that celebrates the honor that belongs to those who rise to the challenge and step on to the field.

Ohio Governor DeWine and Lt. Governor Tressel were in attendance at the ceremony and took part in some of the group photos. The team’s captains presented the President with a helmet signed by the members of the 2024 team and a jersey adorned with the number 47.
