There’s been a lot of turn over on the Ohio State football staff in recent days, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Part of that change included defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs and linebackers coach Al Washington.
The latter of which had a message for Buckeyes players on his way out the door.
“The players, the players, the players,” Washington wrote. “Thankful for all the young men I have been fortunate to be around and work with these past three years.”

“Forever grateful for your time, energy, effort and most especially the example you have shown my kids,” he continued. “Through the good times and tough times relationships mean everything. Always consider you family.”
Washington spent three years on Ohio State’s sidelines after a stint with Michigan on Jim Harbaugh‘s staff. In his time with the Buckeyes, Washington helped develop one of the Big Ten’s strongest linebacking cores in 2020.
Five keys to winning a championship for Ohio State in 2022:
– Defense must improve significantly
– C.J. Stroud must continue elite play
– Buckeyes must be able to trust run game
– Ohio State must start season strong
– Buckeyes must get revenge in The Game https://t.co/hNOOMaRos1— Dan Hope (@Dan_Hope) January 12, 2022

However, 2021 saw the OSU defense struggle to get their footing all season long. Highlighted by poor performances against Michigan and Oregon, among others.
In addition to Ohio State and UM, Washington also has FBS experience with NC State, Cincinnati and Boston College.
