Ohio State announced a change atop its softball program on Monday.
The Buckeyes fired head coach Kelly Kovach Schoenly after 12 seasons, the athletic department announced this afternoon.
Kovach Schoenly logged an overall record of 367-226-1 with a 155-113-1 mark in Big Ten play during her tenure in Columbus.
“On behalf of the department, I want to thank Kelly for her leadership of the program and for the positive impact, both on and off the field, on the many student-athletes who wore the Scarlet and Gray during her tenure,” said Ohio State executive associate director of athletics Mike Penner.
Kovach Schoenly produced a winning record in all 12 seasons and led OSU to five NCAA Tournament berths, including four in a row from 2016-19.
However, the Buckeyes made the tournament just once in the last five seasons. Ohio State finished 31-20 overall and 12-11 in the Big Ten this season, earning the No. 6 seed in the conference tournament.
The Buckeyes were upset by 11th-seeded Wisconsin in the first round, ending their season short of the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row.
A Michigan alum, Kovach Schoenly spent six seasons as the head coach at Miami (Ohio) before being hired by Ohio State, going 188-153-1 with two NCAA Tournament appearances.
A search for a replacement has begun immediately, per OSU.
