Ohio State commit making case for McDonald’s All-American Game

NEW YORK — In a game headlined by some of the nation’s top high school talent with Cam Boozer and Chris Cenac Jr., Ohio State commit A’mare Bynum proved his name belongs amongst the elite in his class.

The four-star recruit was named MVP in the Jordan Holiday Classic matchup between Link Academy and Christopher Columbus High School on Sunday as he led his team to a victory with 22 points on 8-of-9 shooting.

While this performance may have surprised some, Link Academy has come to expect the kind of show Bynum put on for the New York City crowd.

“He’s kind of been like that all year for us,” Link head coach Chad Myers told ZAGSBLOG. “A’mare has been steady, one of our best guys up front all year and I’m just happy to see him do it on this stage in front of everybody and get the respect we think he’s deserved all fall.”

Bynum didn’t just compete at a high level; he also shot the ball well from long distance, making 5-of-6.

“It felt really good to show I can shoot the ball and show my versatility,” Bynum said.

Bynum also took the second-half assignment of containing a motivated Cam Boozer who was looking for a statement win of his own after losing to Long Island Lutheran High School the day before.

“I just started guarding him more,” Bynum said. “Just being able to wall up and not foul him.”

Boozer was held to 4-of-10 shooting in the second half after starting the game 7-of-7.

While Boozer is a lock for the McDonald’s All-American Game, Bynum is certainly making his case.
