Ohio State edge rusher Jack Sawyer didn’t have to wait too long to hear his name called on Day 3 of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Sawyer, who played at Ohio State from 2021-2024, was a two-time All-Big Ten performer during his career with the Buckeyes. He played a huge role in the team’s run to a national championship this past season, racking up 59 tackles, nine sacks and three forced fumbles.
According to Ohio State head coach Ryan Day, Sawyer solidified his status as a program legend by forcing a game-sealing fumble in the semifinals of the College Football Playoff.
“To make a play like that in that moment. You wanna leave a legacy behind? You become a legend. He just became a legend at Ohio State,” Day said.
Unfortunately for Ohio State fans, they won’t be able to cheer for Sawyer’s NFL team on Sundays.
With the No. 123 overall pick in this year’s draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers selected Sawyer.
The Steelers are an excellent landing spot for Sawyer, make no mistake about it.
“Jack Sawyer as a Pittsburgh Steeler just fits perfectly,” one person said. “His persona and talent are everything the Steel City is about. It won’t be too long of a trip for the Sawyer family to watch Jack. He is going to have a long and great NFL career.”
However, most Ohio State fans either root for the Cleveland Browns or Cincinnati Bengals. They’re not going to be rooting for the Steelers this fall.
“Happy for him but as a Bengals fan this hurts my heart a little,” an Ohio State fan said.
“Bummer but we still love him in Ohio,” a second fan commented.
“Why the Steelers,” another fan tweeted.
We’ve seen Ohio State defensive linemen thrive in Pittsburgh. Just look at what Cameron Heyward has accomplished.
It wouldn’t surprise us at all if Sawyer has a successful rookie season in the Steel City.
