Ohio State five-star OT target sets commitment date

The Buckeyes are also trending for a four-star quarterback… and may have a slight problem along the defensive line.

Ohio State is in the thick of the summer college football recruiting schedule. After hosting numerous recruits on campus in June, the Buckeyes are now watching the recruiting dominoes fall and hoping it is in their favor.

Ryan Day’s 2026 recruiting class currently sits at No. 5 in the 247Sports Class Rankings after adding a trio of new commitments in the last week, and the team is hoping to add to its class this week.

The week of the Fourth of July is typically one of the busier college football recruiting commitment weeks of the year, and this year is no different. Ohio State is hoping for some additional fireworks of its own as the team learned Monday that five-star offensive tackle target Felix Ojo (Mansfield, TX / Lake Ridge) will announce his commitment on July 4.

The blue-chip prospect is the No. 2 OT in the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He is the No. 7 national prospect and the No. 1 recruit out of the talent-rich state of Texas.

Ojo has a final group of four schools including Ohio State, Florida, Texas and Michigan. He took official visits with all four of his finalists starting with Florida followed by Ohio State. He then visited with Michigan and Texas. Ojo also took official visits with Utah, Colorado, Texas Tech and Ole Miss, but they are no longer contenders in his recruitment. Of his finalists, he has said that Texas and Ohio State are at the top of his list.

Ohio State already has a solid haul alongside the offensive line with commitments from two four-star OT’s in Maxwell Riley and Sam Greer as well as from three-star OT Aaron Thomas and three-star IOL Tucker Smith. However, the team would like to add to this haul and Ojo would be a perfect last piece of the puzzle for the Buckeyes.

Ohio State trending for 2026 four-star QB

Ohio State’s 2026 recruiting class has one major difference from years past which is quarterback is not really a priority in the class. This is due to redshirt freshman QB Julian Sayin and true freshman Tavien St. Clair already being on the roster. However, that doesn’t mean the Buckeyes are completely ignoring the position either.

One of the top QB targets for the Buckeyes in this year’s class is four-star Luke Fahey (Mission Viejo, CA / Mission Viejo) who is also scheduled to commit later this week on July 3.

Fahey is another one of the recruits to officially visit with the Buckeyes in June and it appears the visit went as well as possible as Ohio State is now the projected favorites to earn his commitment. 247Sports Ohio State Insider Bill Kurelic recently cast a Crystal Ball Prediction in favor of the Buckeyes to land Fahey. He joined 247Sports Mountain Region Recruiting Analyst Blair Angulo who submitted a similar prediction just days before Kurelic.

While there are no certainties in college football recruiting, when there is smoke there is usually fire, and Ohio State has to love where it sits in Fahey’s recruitment.

Ohio State watches multiple DL targets commit elsewhere

It is becoming glaringly apparent that the Buckeyes are struggling recruiting along the defensive line, mainly at defensive edge. Currently, Ohio State holds commitments from four-star edge Khary Wilder, four-star DL Damari Simeon and three-star Cameron Brickle. The Buckeyes are also trending to flip three-star Florida DL commit Jamir Perez.

While there are certainly some big additions to the roster among that group, the haul is certainly not to Ohio State’s standards, especially with only one commitment at the edge position. Not to mention, the Buckeyes have recently seen multiple priority edge targets commit elsewhere.

On Sunday, the Buckeyes watched high four-star edge tagret Carter Meadows commit to Michigan over them, and then on Monday the team watched four-star edge target Landon Barnes commit to Ole Miss and four-star DL Pierre Dean commit to Georgia.

Ohio State’s top remaining target at edge is four-star KJ Ford, who officially visited with Ohio State on June 20. However, the Buckeyes will need to go all-in on Ford, who is currently being favored to Texas A&M.

It will be interesting to see what kind of moves Ohio State makes to close out the 2026 recruiting cycle, and don’t expect them to stop recruiting those recruits who committed elsewhere.

Quick Hits

  • Ohio State five-star running back target Derrek Cooper originally had plans to announce his commitment on July 12, but announced Monday that he will be delaying his decision. Cooper took official visits with Auburn, Miami, Alabama, Georgia, Florida State and Ohio State. There have been rumblings he is pushing back his commitment date to take an official visit with Texas.

I will no longer be committing July 12.
