The transfer portal has helped Ohio State land some pretty notable players over the past few years. And they just landed another one of the nation’s top players on defense to start 2022.
On Wednesday, Oklahoma State defensive back Tanner McCalister announced his move to Ohio State. The move reunites McCalister with former Cowboys defensive coordinator Jim Knowles, who recently accepted the same role with the Buckeyes.
“Already Written! Excited to begin this new journey with (Ohio State football) let’s go! #Committed,” McCaliser wrote on Twitter.
McCalister is a versatile player who started off as a cornerback but has really found his niche at safety. Over the past three years he’s played 36 games at safety, making 113 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and 11 passes defended.

The Ohio State Buckeyes could certainly use a high-quality safety of Tanner McCalister’s caliber. And it should be no surprise that fans are already swarming his comments section, welcoming him to Columbus.
“Welcome to the real OSU Lolol I’m kidding! But for real excited for you to be here!!!!” one fan replied.
“Welcome to Buckeye Nation!!! Gotta learn the chant though, lol. OH-IO…can’t wait to see what you do here!!” wrote another.
“Welcome to the Brotherhood Tanner…. Go Bucks!” a third fan wrote.
The last two games of the season were rough on the Buckeyes defensively. They gave up 87 combined points to Michigan and Utah to close out the year.
That’s not a level of production that the Buckeyes want to continue in 2022.
