The Ohio State football program has become notorious for its ability to attract some of the nation’s top high school recruits. Year after year, the Buckeyes seem to rake in talent from around the country, which consistently makes the team one of the most competitive in college football.
However, one Ohio State staffer made a shocking admission about this year’s incoming freshman class.
Buckeyes’ director of player personnel Mark Pantoni, who’s obviously spent plenty of time getting to know the program’s newcomers, claimed that the 2021 recruiting class is the most talented one he’s ever seen in his time at Columbus.
“This is the most talented freshman class we’ve ever had,” Pantoni said, via Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports.

The 2021 Ohio State class is ranked No. 1 in the nation by Rivals and No. 2 overall by 247Sports, so it’s difficult to disagree with Pantoni’s assessment. Ryan Day and the Buckeyes pulled in seven 5-star prospects and 13 4-star prospects, according to 247Sports.
Ohio State also recruited a solid balance of top players on both offense and defense. With quarterbacks Kyle McCord and Quinn Ewers, tailback TreVeyon Henderson, wide receiver Emeka Egbuka, defensive end J.T. Tuimoloau, and defensive back Denzel Burke, the Buckeyes should have plenty of depth to round out their roster.
A handful of Ohio State’s freshman class will be called upon to play right away, but a solid portion of the group will need to wait for their opportunity to leap up the depth chart. Either way, the Buckeyes appear to be well-positioned for the next handful of years thanks to the stellar job of Pantoni, Day and the program’s staff.
The class of 2021 will get their first chance to see the field at Ohio State when the Buckeyes kick off their season with at Minnesota on Sept. 2.
