Ohio State National Champion Blasts Team’s Cotton Bowl Performance

January 4, 2024 by The Spun

The Ohio State Buckeyes are coming off perhaps their most disheartening two-game run in decades, losing The Game to Michigan in November before losing the Cotton Bowl to Missouri last week. For one former Buckeye who was a part of their last national title team, it’s getting hard to watch.

Appearing on the Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show, former Buckeyes safety Tyvis Powell admonished the program for how listless they appeared in the Cotton Bowl Classic. He said that it was so bad that some of the worst Buckeyes teams of the last 20 years would probably have beaten them in that game.

“I’ve never seen the product look that bad,” Powell said. “It was horrible. I’ve watched the Buckeyes go 6-7 in a season and that 6-7 team would smoke them. That’s how I feel right now about them.”

Ohio State were held without a touchdown for the first time in years in their 14-3 loss to the Tigers.

Fans in the comments blamed everything from the transfer portal to head coach Ryan Day for the team being so terrible.

“Hard to coach college kids in bowl games when u have transfers and kids not playing because of draft. If u aren’t in the 2 big bowls kids don’t give a s-t and won’t play,” one user replied.

“Why does Ryan Day still have a job? Asking for a friend,” another wrote.

Whatever the reason, it was a bad finish to the season and the Buckeyes may want to do some soul-searching if they want to get back in the national title conversation next year.
