Ohio State’s basketball team has been so underwhelming this season that people are officially calling for Chris Holtmann’s job.
The Lantern, Ohio State’s daily student newspaper, released an opinion piece this Thursday stating that Holtmann “has to go.”
Sam Becker, a second-year political science major, wrote this opinion piece for The Lantern. He described the Ohio State men’s basketball team as a “corpse of a program.”
“Chris Holtmann has been the head coach of the Ohio State men’s basketball team since 2017. He has taken the program to moderate heights and disheartening lows,” Becker wrote. “Now, the Schottenstein Center is the home to a corpse of a program. And if the team is a decomposing corpse, Ohio State men’s basketball games this season have been a funeral with nobody in attendance.”
The Buckeyes are currently 13-10 this season. Their conference record is 3-9, which is tied for last in the Big Ten.

Holtmann has been Ohio State’s head coach since 2017. He hasn’t reached the second week of the NCAA Tournament since taking the job.
If Holtmann can’t get Ohio State on the right track in the near future, there’s a good chance the school will make a coaching change.
Next up for Ohio State is a showdown with Maryland. That game will take place at the Schottenstein Center.
