Ohio State lost another player to the transfer portal.
Sam Hart, a tight end who didn’t catch a pass during three seasons with the Buckeyes, announced his decision to enter the portal on Tuesday.
“I am very grateful for these past few years as a Buckeye,” Hart wrote. “I would like to thank my teammates for the friendships and the memories, and the coaches for giving me the opportunity of playing here. After a lot of thought, I have decided to enter the transfer portal as a graduate transfer (May 2024) with two years of eligibility remaining.”

Hart enrolled at Ohio State as 247Sports’ No. 19 tight end from the class of 2021. The three-star recruit received offers from other prominent programs such as Penn State, Notre Dame, and LSU.
After redshirting in 2021, Hart played five games in 2022 without recording any stats. The OSU Scholar-Athlete will graduate as a marketing major later this year.
Cade Stover scored five touchdowns in each of the last two seasons while tallying the team’s second-most receiving yards (576) behind Marvin Harrison Jr. in 2023. Fellow tight ends Gee Scott Jr., Patrick Gurd, and Joe Royer saw limited opportunities during the season.
Royer transferred to Cincinnati, and the Buckeyes also lost wide receivers Julian Fleming (Penn State) and Noah Rogers (NC State) this offseason. However, Bryson Rodgers returned to Ohio State after entering the portal, and the Buckeyes landed tight end Will Kacmarek from Ohio.
