Replacing an elite quarterback like Justin Fields isn’t an easy task. However, it appears Ohio State has another potential-packed gunslinger waiting in the wings.
The Buckeyes haven’t officially named their starting quarterback for the 2021 season, but all signs point to redshirt freshman C.J. Stroud winning the job. It was recently reported that he’s separating himself from the rest of the pack in the team’s quarterback competition.
In fact, Stroud has been so impressive this offseason that he’s already being compared to one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.
During a segment on the Big Ten Network, Ohio State wide receiver Garrett Wilson compared Stroud to Seattle Seahawks star Russell Wilson.
“I say with C.J., he really drops the ball in there,” Wilson said when asked about Stroud’s skillset. “The best way to put it is like Russell Wilson, the ball, it falls on you. So it makes it really easy to catch the deep ball.”
Garrett Wilson talked about Ohio State QBs C.J. Stroud, Kyle McCord, Jack Miller and Quinn Ewers on Big Ten Network tonight.

If Stroud is truly as talented as Wilson at throwing the deep ball, Ohio State’s passing attack will be very dangerous this fall.
Ohio State’s receiving corps is loaded with playmakers, such as Chris Olave, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Garrett Wilson. All Stroud needs to know is get the ball in their hands and let them go to work.
We’ll get to see just how special Stroud is on Sept. 2 when Ohio State takes on Minnesota.
