As the top player in the NCAA transfer portal, Alabama safety Caleb Downs is having teams come to him rather than having to visit their campuses first. Up first is a major powerhouse on the national stage.
According to Pete Nakos of On3 Sports, the Ohio State Buckeyes are sending a contingent down to Downs’ home for an in-home visit. The Buckeyes and the Georgia Bulldogs are considered the top two teams vying for his services.
“Ohio State is traveling down to Georgia on Thursday to make an in-home visit with Alabama transfer defensive back Caleb Downs, sources tell On3,” Nakos wrote.
“The top-ranked player in the transfer portal, according to On3, the former Five-Star Plus+ recruit entered college football’s free agency officially on Wednesday night. The Buckeyes and Georgia went down to the wire with Alabama to land Downs during his high school recruitment. Now they are the top two programs to watch to land the most coveted athlete available in the portal.”

Caleb Downs led the Alabama Crimson Tide as a true freshman in 2023 – the first for any Alabama defender at any position in more than 50 years. For his efforts he won SEC Freshman of the Year honors.
He’ll be an incredible addition to any defense, whether it’s in Columbus, Athens or some other college city.
