Former Ohio State head coach Chris Holtmann could land a new job in the very near future.
According to The Field of 68, DePaul has focused its coaching search on Holtmann.
“Nothing is finalized yet, but signs are that it’s headed that way,” college basketball insider Jeff Goodman said.
Holtmann was fired by Ohio State in mid-February due to the program’s unprecedented struggles. He ultimately left the Buckeyes with a 137-86 record.
Ohio State made the NCAA Tournament four times with Holtmann at the helm from 2017-2024. The team never made it past the Round of 32, though.
DePaul would love to get back to the big dance. The Blue Demons haven’t made it to the NCAA Tournament since the 2003-04 season. To make matters worse, they haven’t been over .500 since 2019.
This season was a new low for DePaul’s program, winning just three out of 32 games. The university parted ways with head coach Tony Stubblefield in late January. He was then replaced by Matt Brady.
Stubblefield finished his tenure at DePaul with an underwhelming 28-54 record.
Even if Holtmann’s days of being a hot commodity are over, there’s no question he’d give the Blue Demons an upgrade at head coach.
