For most schools an 11-2 season is something worth celebrating. But at Ohio State, it’s grounds for termination and while head coach Ryan Day is safe, his staff is not.
According to FootballScoop, Day has informed his staff that he will be hiring a new offensive coordinator and give that new coach the power to “evaluate the current staff.” The only coaches who are considered to be safe are wide receivers coach Brian Hartline and quarterbacks coach Corey Dennis.
“Ryan Day informed the staff he plans to hire a new offensive coordinator and that coordinator will be empowered to evaluate the current staff and make new hires if he believes that will improve the team, sources said. Brian Hartline, a Buckeye alum who has recruited and developed multiple first-round picks including reigning Biletnikoff Award winner Marvin Harrison, Jr., is considered to be safe though. Quarterbacks coach Corey Dennis is on an expiring contract,” Zach Barnett and John Brice wrote.
Hartline served as offensive coordinator this past year following the departure of Kevin Wilson after six years in the role. While the team was good on offense, it got off to some notoriously slow starts.
FootballScoop further reported that Day will re-evaluate both the defensive and even special teams coaching staffs.

Ohio State started the season 11-0 for the third straight season, but for the third straight season lost to arch-rival Michigan in The Game, failing to reach the Big Ten Championship Game in the process.
The Buckeyes qualified for the Cotton Bowl but were listless against Missouri and scored just three points – their fewest in a game in years.
