Ohio State fired men’s basketball coach Chris Holtmann before he could wrap up his seventh season with the Buckeyes. The athletic department hasn’t found its replacement yet, but an intriguing candidate for the job has emerged.
According to Eleven Warriors, one name to monitor for the opening at Ohio State is Xavier coach Sean Miller.
Miller is no stranger to coaching a notable program. After his first stint at Xavier, he coached at Arizona from 2009-2021.
The only reason Miller was fired by Arizona was because of a corruption scandal. Although he never took the Wildcats to the Final Four, he made the Elite Eight on three separate occasions and went 302-109.
Miller proved last season that he’s still capable of having postseason success, leading Xavier to the Sweet 16. His Musketeers haven’t been nearly as great this year though.
Of course, Miller isn’t the only candidate on Ohio State’s radar. Eleven Warriors mentioned Florida Atlantic coach Dusty May as a potential option.
May is one of the hottest names in coaching circles right now. It’s easy to understand why that’s the case. Last season, he led Florida Atlantic to the Final Four.
Another name being floated out there for the job is Ohio State alum Chris Jent. He’s currently an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers.
